Taupo is the adventure capital of New Zealand.  Choose from bungy jumping, sky diving, river rafting, kayaking, sailing, para-sailing, water skiing, jet boating, horse trekking, mountain biking, skiing and snow boarding at Whakapapa or Turoa, horseback riding, 4-wheel off-road driving, helicopter flights, float-plane flights, caving, rock climbing, hiking - just to name a few !

Taupo is also the ideal base for the world famous for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, located in the dual world heritage listed Tongariro National Park. Regarded as NZ's best one day walk this excursion is a must do. It is very popular so bookings are essential.

Tongariro Expeditions bus will pick you up early in the morning from Alpine Lake Motor Lodge, take you to the start of the crossing, pick you up at the other end then bring you back.

Lake Taupo is the crater lake of an extinct volcano so we are right in the centre of the Volcanic Plateau, providing the unique thermal activity experiences nearby of Orakei Korako (Hidden Valley), Wairakei Terraces, Craters of the Moon and Wai-O-Tapu thermal wonderland.

Taupo Hot Springs and Wairakei Terraces are natural thermally heated pools and the AC Baths are heated indoor and outdoor pools.  There are also several 'hot' spots in the lake and Waikato river we can guide you to.

In addition to hot pools, Wairakei Terraces also hosts a fabulous, unique Maori Cultural Experience (dinner and show) as well as a 'Thermal Walkway' to wander and admire the vast, beuatiful colourful terraces formed by the silica in the thermal water. Complimentary transport is available from the motel.

Lake Taupo is known world wide for it's excellent trout fishing. Well stocked with rainbow and brown trout, even the most amateur fisherman with the help of local knowledge can catch these ! 

There are many boat charters that will take you out on the lake or up local rivers to fish or just to enjoy the beautiful scenery including the famous Maori Carvings.
Our guests have always caught a trout when using our recommended fly fishing guide. 

Local restaurants will cook your trout for you or the local butcher will smoke it so you can take it away with you.

You can also fish for prawns at Huka Prawn Park. Dine at the The Huka Prawn Park Restaurant and they will cook your catch for you to enjoy !
