TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING
Alpine Lake Motor Lodge is your ideal base for traversing the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing or the Waihohinu crossing
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is 17km of astonishing scenery which takes about 7 to 8 hours. It is a one way traverse so transport is needed to take you to the start then pick you up at the other end.
We will arrange for your transport with the Tongariro Expeditions bus which will pick you up from our motel and return you to Alpine Lake Motor Lodge at the end of your trip.
There are 2 pickup times of either the Early Bird at 5.40am or the later time at 6.20 am in the summer season of November to May or just the Early Bird at 6am in winter from June to October.
The Early Bird Service gets you to the start of the crossing up to 1 1/2 hours before the crowds get there and gives you extra time to ascend the summits of Tongariro or Ngarauhoe. Also the difficult climbs are finished before the heat of the day.

Weather in the Tongariro National park can change in minutes.
Expected summer temperatures are 5 to 35 Celsius and in winter -5 to 10 Celsius

We will make the booking for you but no charge will be made until your arrival as the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is conditional upon the weather.
